Soft-paste porcelain with tin glaze. Decoration in high relief of flowering leafy branches, each one individually modelled and applied.
Very good condition (small fire cracks, a few minor visible chips to some flowers and leaves only). No restoration.
Light wear to the gilding of the mount. This is certainly one of the finest pieces of Chantilly porcelain with decoration of flowers in relief known at present. Only one other comparable ewer is recorded but it is not as fine and is lacking its basin. It is on exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, in Melbourne (see illustration).
